The pictures show a four story apartment building. For this drill you have to imagine that it is an enclosed structure. We set up the portable standpipe to simulate a standpipe in the stairwell on the second floor. The fire is on the 3rd floor and the hallway is charged with black smoke.
Lt. Garcia demonstrated the different ways to deploy the high rise pack. One is to have both the female and and the nozzle next to you so you will be able to connect into the Gated Wye, then advance on the fire. The other is to grab the coupling and the nozzle, so you will have 50 ft of hose at the door for advancement into the fire room.
The first two arriving units will take up with them all the tools and hose they need to fight fire. We have our 100' high rise pack, 50' extra section, and the high rise bag, which has an extra nozzle, pigtail with a pressure gauge, and tools. As well as our forcible entry tools, NY hooks, and the can.
The officer, or the FF with the Hise Rise Bag, will make the connection into the Stand Pipe in the stairwell on the floor below the fire.
At the same time the FF with the 100' High Rise Pack will fully flake out the line, leaving both the nozzle and the female with the reducer at the Wye.
The officer, or the FF who made the connection to the Stand Pipe, will now connect the 100' High Rise hose to the Gated Wye and the FF who flaked out the line will head up to the fire floor with the nozzle.
The FF with the nozzle will meet with his partner who has flaked out the extra 50' section from the fire floor up the stair well to the 4th floor and back down to the fire floor. He takes off the nozzle and connects to the 50' section then reattaches the nozzle. The line is charged and the crew now has water and is ready to advance.
The officer makes his way to the 3rd floor and the 2nd crew arrives to help hump hose. Since this is an enclosed hallway charged with smoke, the crew goes on air in the stairwell and makes their way into the hallway
Since there is heavy smoke we have to crawl to the fire apartment. On the way there we have to navigate some turns. With the help of the other crew in the stairwell humping hose, we make it to the fire rather quickly.
