Carol City is a community located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Situated about 12 miles north of Miami, the community was originally named "Coral City" by developers. Threat of a lawsuit by the nearby city of Coral Gables caused a last-minute switch to the name of Carol City. In 2003 the majority of Carol City, along with parts of other small communities such as Andover, Bunche Park, Lake Lucerne, Norland, Opa-Locka North, and Scott Lake, voted to incorporate as the City of Miami Gardens. The City of Miami Gardens houses Dolphin Stadium, home to the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and Major League Baseball's Florida Marlins. Dolphin Stadium also hosts the Orange Bowl game, an annual college football classic. Calder Race Course, home to major thoroughbred horse racing, is also located in the city. Miami Carol City Senior High School, established in 1963, is a secondary school located in the city. The schools mascot is the Chiefs and some famous alumni are Santana Moss wide receiver for the Washington Redskins and his brother Sinorice Moss wide receiver for the New York Giants. Also rapper Rick Ross (William Roberts) was a graduate of the High School.
